PINOSO AND PEDANÍAS

Pinoso is a traditional Spanish town which sits located in the mountainous countryside of the Alicante/Murcia border (at some 56 km from Alicante). Pinoso truly is a friendly and enchanting place to live where there are specialist bodegas in most villages selling their wine, almonds and olives. The landscape is characterized by the rugged mountains and agriculture of the region.

Other local industries include shoe making, handbags, salt mining and most important of all marble.

Its gastronomy also has great relevance, being the paella the most demanded dishes and “les fassegures” as one of the most traditional dishes.

Pinoso has a population of almost 8,000 and a municipal area of 126 km2. Recently it has experienced a growth in tourism.

The districts of this municipality are 10: El Rodriguillo, Casas del Pino, La Caballusa, Casas de Ibáñez, Paredón, Lel, Ubeda, Culebrón, Encebras and Tres Fuentes.

Pinoso’s clock tower has become a symbol for the town and was built in 1889. Other interesting places to visit include the church of St Peter the apostle, the Hermitage of St Catherine, and the Fatima shrine.

The climate is, due to its altitude, cold and dry, its thermal averages oscillate between 7.7 ° C in January and 24.8 ° C in July, with occasional frosts in Spring.

GASTRONOMY

Pinoso is well known for its gastronomy, that is to say for the set of dishes and culinary customs that are found in the bars and restaurants around the town and surroundings. The best known dish in this town is rice with rabbit and snails.

Although we should also mention other dishes and products with high demand such as: the “gachamiga”, “faseguras”, cold meat, “gazpachos” with rabbit and snails, and with a sweet touch the pastries, with special attention to the “toñas” and “perusas”.
